The spatial representation for agricultural reserve land, which is a parcel of land, based on soil and climate, deemed necessary to be maintained for agricultural use. The ALR digital data is not considered the official representation of the ALR. The Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR) is a provincial zone in which agriculture is recognized as the priority use. Farming is encouraged and non-agricultural uses are controlled.
Description: January 6, 2011 - The single DESCRIPTION column was replaced by two new columns: CODE and DESIGNATION. This was done to solve the issue of missing information when the layer is exported as a shapefile (for the data download site). Now the CODE and DESIGNATION attributes each have their own domain. In addition, all the existing coded values were duplicated and an asterisk (*) added to the end of them to denote parcels within a zone that have exceptions to the regular zoning rules. These areas are not merged into the surrounding zoning polygons and are treated as a separate designation. (the text for the appropriate zone in the Bylaw 833 document will need to be consulted for more information on these exceptions). November 2013 - Built topology for the layer and cleaned all the gaps and overlaps. Participates in LAND USE topology.
